How it works...

First-time campers from families with limited financial resources are referred to Camps for Kids from over 25 agencies. Based on their interests, parents match their child with one of the participating American Camp Association accredited camps in Wisconsin.

Both the campers and their families are then encouraged to participate in year-long activities following their summer experiences.

Camp provides children with the opportunity to connect with nature, to participate in human powered activities, and to benefit from personal and primary relationships.

Because of Camp...™ so much is possible.

This PSA Campaign is made possible, in part, by generous funding from the Legacy Fund sponsored by the Association of Independent Camps and the Lilly Endowment Inc.

A Life-Changing Experience

Camps for Kids not only introduces children to nature, it helps them create bonds with fellow campers and counselors and gain new skills with the pride of accomplishment. It helps teach children to build trust with others, increase self-awareness, and also stimulates personal growth and group cooperation that will last their lifetimes. Overnight camping can have a profoundly positive impact on a child, especially a child who has had few opportunities to escape the city.

Camp Inspirations: Look Who Went to Camp!

A previous American Camp Association study done on campers revealed:

• Camp helped me make new friends. (90.6%)

• Camp helped me get to know other campers who were different from me. (94%)

• Camp helped me feel good about myself. (92%)

• At camp, I did things I was afraid to do at first. (74%)

Camps for Kids

To feel the grass between your toes, to swim in a tree-bordered lake, to count the stars in the dark night sky – these experiences open a whole new world for children at camp.

Our mission is to provide life-changing, first-time resident camp experiences for children from Milwaukee County families with limited financial resources.

Established in 1994, the Camps for Kids program gives kids the chance to break away for a week-long visit to an entirely different world – a world filled with the wonders of nature, the sound of songs sung at a campfire & the laughter shared with new friends.
